1. offers information about the Italian campaign (1943-45), when Allied and German armies battled from one end of Italy to the other, and
2. describes the book A Travel Guide to World War II Sites in Italy: Museums, Monuments, and Battlegrounds. This guidebook outlines the history of the Italian campaign and provides detailed tours of over 100 memorial sites dedicated to those who fought in Italy and to civilian victims of the war. The book's author, Anne Saunders, is a research associate at a university in the USA (the College of Charleston). She has a PhD from the University of South Carolina and an MA from Columbia University.
Dr. Saunders also has translated a book titled La Battaglia di Sommocolonia (The Battle of Sommocolonia). Her translation and the Italian text have been published together in one volume. The book first describes the history of Sommocolonia, a Tuscan village that began as a Roman colony and then served as a trading post for centuries. It then tells about the battle that took place there in December 1944, when Axis forces surprised Allied troops in an early-morning attack.
